Sherpa Music Vol 10. The Light

It’s dark out there, but there’s light in front of us.

We’ve passed the Winter Solstice. Here in the Northern Hemisphere, there’s more daylight every day.

This year has revealed stark truths, inequities, human frailty, deception, and resilience. It’s caused me to pause, reflect, and be grateful for the basics. It’s made me angry, hopeful, resourceful, patient, and impatient.  There have been nights when all the spooky stuff I can imagine shows up in my dreams and days of long walks where I can sense that something right and purposeful is still guiding us. Maybe you’ve experienced the same feelings? There’s a glow that we’re moving toward, yet we have a dark winter to endure before we get there.

“Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack in everything That’s how the light gets in”

- Leonard Cohen

The future is waiting to be designed. We’re all able to contribute to shaping it if we choose. Immense opportunities for change, growth, and invention lie in front of us. Light and optimism guide the way. I don’t think I’m being a PollyAnna here. There are lots of tricky obstacles up ahead with many paths over, around and through them and many smart people to help us navigate this terrain. To take this path we need to be confident, realistic, and unabashedly honest.

As you observe the traditions of this time of the year, may this be your soundtrack for moving into the light. These are songs of contemplation, exuberance, and love. Let them resound in your homes!

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

- Martin Luther King Jr.

Stay in the light. Be safe, be well, Jim
