Sherpa Music Vol 8. Autumn
It’s autumn, the light has changed.
The days are getting shorter, the colors going from vibrant to muted.
At this time of the year, I’m reminded of the smoke drifting up from the carts of the chestnut roasters in Central Park, and the knish guy in front of the High School of Music & Art. For those in my tribe, it’s the time of welcoming a New Year, for being written into the book of life - big stuff - and gathering with family and friends to celebrate life and the prospect of a bright and loving year. God knows we could all use one.
This time of year echos with music that seems to be made of the very essence of Autumn. Rubber Soul stands out. It’s the tunes and the cover art for me - turns out it was recorded from October - November of 1965 and released in December of that year. Quintessentially autumnal - “Isn’t it good, Norwegian wood.”
There are other tunes too that fit the season and the mood. Some introspective, others that evoke the harvest, the weather, the spookiness of witches, and Halloween.
Time to bundle up, turn up your optimism and creativity. Take a walk and listen to the leaves crunch under your feet.
Hold your loved ones tight. Be well. Stay in the light.
